Quadriceps

The quadriceps femoris is a four-headed muscle located on the front of the thigh. It extends the knee joint and simultaneously flexes the hip—a rare combination that makes it one of the most important muscles for upright movement.

Whether climbing stairs, cycling, or performing any leg-focused exercise, the quadriceps is always active. Classic exercises such as squats, leg extensions on a cable machine, or lunges activate it particularly effectively. In combination with the hamstrings, this creates a balanced leg profile, providing strength, coordination, and injury prevention all in one.
