Leg muscles

The leg muscles are among the largest muscle groups in the body and can be divided into several areas. The front of the thigh is dominated by the quadriceps (quadriceps femoris), which is responsible for extending and stabilizing the knee. The back is formed by the hamstrings, which bend the knee and extend the hip. The gluteal muscles complement the thigh and are crucial for stability and strength.

In the lower leg, the calf muscles – primarily the gastrocnemius and soleus – along with other extensors and flexors, enable movements such as walking, jumping, and standing. A balanced leg workout not only improves strength and endurance but also enhances jumping power, joint stability, and overall performance in everyday life.
