A powerlifter is someone who specializes in powerlifting, which consists of the squat, bench press, and deadlift. Unlike bodybuilding, which focuses primarily on muscle aesthetics, powerlifting emphasizes maximum strength performance in just a few movements.

Training for powerlifters often includes maximal strength training, periodization, and targeted technical work to improve performance in the three disciplines. Powerlifting requires not only muscle strength, but also strong joint stability and a resilient central nervous system.
