About

Leonie is 32 years old, an Olympian, and a mother of two children. As the daughter of two professional sailors, she grew up on the beach and on the water. Already in her youth, she participated in World and European Championships and moved to Kiel after graduating from high school to the Olympic training center. There she started her first Olympic campaign in sailing, winning bronze at European Championships, but missed the qualification for Rio 2016. Subsequently, she began her medical studies, but couldn't stay away from competitive sports, so she eventually started another Olympic campaign alongside her medical studies with the goal of Paris 2024.

Leonie switched disciplines from sailing to kitesurfing and in the following years, alongside her studies, she won several German championship titles and became vice European champion. However, family planning was also important to her, so in 2021 she started a family with kitesurfer Darian and their son Levi was born. Making a comeback after pregnancy and during her studies was hard work, but it paid off. Leonie, along with her small family, lived in a campervan for 2.5 years, traveling from competition to competition. Thanks to the great support of her family, she managed to qualify for the Olympics. The family went all in, moving to Tarifa (Spain) to have the best training opportunities, while little Levi attended a Spanish daycare. Their efforts paid off with a fifth-place finish at the Olympic Games.

Now she has taken a year off from competitive sports to complete her medical studies with a practical year and to give birth to her second child. In 2026, she will continue with competitive sports and her comeback is optimally supported by EISENHORN, because there is always time for workouts at home between studying and breastfeeding.
