BMI (Body Mass Index)
The Body Mass Index (BMI) is a measure for assessing body weight in relation to height. It is calculated by dividing weight in kilograms by height in meters squared (kg/m²). Values between 18.5 and 24.9 are generally considered normal weight. Below that is considered underweight, and above that is considered overweight.
It is important to note that the BMI does not account for differences in body composition, such as whether the weight consists mainly of fat or muscle mass. Therefore, a muscular person with a low body fat percentage may be classified as "overweight" according to the BMI. In practice, the BMI is a rough screening tool that should be complemented by measurements such as body fat percentage, waist-to-hip ratio, or body fat scales.
