Abdominal muscles

The abdominal muscles consist of the rectus abdominis (straight abdominal muscle), the external and internal oblique muscles, and the transversus abdominis (transverse abdominal muscle). They play a central role in nearly every physical activity. Far more than just "six-pack" aesthetics, they stabilize the torso, protect the spine, and transfer force between the upper and lower body. Strong abdominal muscles are therefore essential for an active life and functional training, especially in combination with the lower back muscles.

Abdominal training can be designed efficiently and with variety. Within the MIKE5 Training Concept, the focus is placed on basic exercises, where the abdominal muscles are automatically engaged and trained. Additional isolation exercises are not strictly necessary, but they can be included if desired. On the Strength Station, for example, isolation work can be done using the cable pulley with crossover crunches or standing torso rotations. Leg raises, planks, and side planks are further effective options.

By regularly incorporating such exercises, you not only strengthen the abdominal muscles but also the entire core muscles – laying the foundation for better performance in all other muscle groups.
