Abdominal muscles
The abdominal muscles consist of the rectus abdominis (straight abdominal muscle), the external/internal oblique muscles (outer/inner oblique abdominal muscles), and the transversus abdominis (transverse abdominal muscle), and play a central role in any physical activity. They are much more than just 'six-pack' aesthetics: they stabilize the entire torso, protect the spine, and transfer power between the upper and lower body. Strong abdominal muscles are therefore essential for an active life and functional training, especially in conjunction with the lower back muscles.
Ab exercises can be designed efficiently and varied. The MIKE5 training concept focuses on training the basic exercises. In principle, the abdominal muscles are also stressed and trained with every exercise. Additional training with isolation exercises is not necessarily required. If needed, however, the MIKE5 training can be supplemented with additional isolation exercises such as crossover crunch on the cable machine, standing torso rotations on the cable machine or leg raises. Those who regularly incorporate planks or side holds into their training plan not only strengthen the abdominal muscles themselves but also the entire core muscles – laying the foundation for performance in all other muscle groups.
