Contraction
Contraction refers to the active tightening of a muscle, to generate force. It can be concentric (shortening of the muscle, e.g., during the upward pull in a pull-up), eccentric (muscle lengthens under tension, e.g., during the lowering of the bar in bench press) or isometric (holding the position, like in planks). Each form of contraction plays a role in training – on a strength station EISENHORN S or DS all three can be specifically used to develop different aspects of strength.
