Microtrauma
Microtraumas are tiny injuries of the muscle fibers, which occur during intense strength training – especially during eccentric movements. These micro-injuries are a natural part of muscle building. The body repairs and strengthens the affected muscles, leading to more strength and mass in the long run. Microtraumas can cause short-term muscle soreness, but they are a desired training stimulus as long as they are accompanied by sufficient muscle recovery.
